Rajasekhar had an accident last month when he fell off his two-wheeler and was bedridden for a few days, but even that did not stop him from fulfilling his mission. “Back pain, but I couldn’t miss what I do every day. On August 8, he planted his 1,500th seedling.
Every day he plants a new tree, takes photos and records videos that, he says, will become a source of inspiration for people.
In 2017, he introduced the practice of giving saplings to retired employees instead of bouquets at work. When he attends a wedding, he gives the newlyweds a sapling and a bird’s nest to place on a tree in their home.
On July 1, 2020, Rajasekhar started planting a sapling every day as part of his ‘Prakruthi Haritha Deeksha’ programme“to spread greenery. “If we have to fight pollution, we have to plant more trees,” Rajasekhar said.
In his “Green Motor Vehicle Garden” he takes the seedlings he buys from nurseries and gives them to people, encouraging them to plant them. Every month he spends almost 15,000 of his salary on buying seedlings.
Rajasekhar encourages people to plant saplings when they celebrate birthdays or other occasions. He agrees to plant a sapling for anyone who asks.
Rajasekhar works as a fitter at the central workshop of Singareni Collieries, but before and after work, he talks to people to encourage them to plant saplings. He has also involved school children in the mission, explaining to them the benefits of planting saplings. “When I was 11, I started to take more interest in nature,” he recalls.
Under its mission to distribute one crore seeds, it has already distributed around 10 lakh seeds, mostly in tribal areas.
