Whether or not you think Samsung copied Apple with the first-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra this year, it’s hard to argue with the value of this very solid Wear OS watch right now. That’s because Amazon is selling Apple Watch Ultra 2 alternative (for Android smartphone users) with a $50 discount, which is valid at the time of this writing.

Keep in mind that the Galaxy Watch Ultra was immediately more affordable than its main rival, debuting at a retail price of $649.99 just a few weeks ago. As far as we know, this is the first deal a major US retailer like Amazon has offered on this particular device, and yes, that includes the e-commerce giant’s recent Prime Day 2024 sales event.

At its recently reduced price, Samsung’s rugged smartwatch is even easier to recommend to outdoor enthusiasts and clumsy users in general. As our comprehensive Galaxy Watch Ultra review shows, this bad boy supports its super-tough titanium build with a gorgeous display and excellent battery life (at least by Wear OS standards), giving not only the aforementioned Apple Watch Ultra 2 a run for its money, but also Garmin’s best rugged wearables.

The overall system performance is virtually unrivaled (if you consider Android-compatible smartwatches), the health monitoring tools are roughly comparable to what Apple’s best current wearables offer, and… basically the same can be said about the expected long-term software support.

Because there is no such thing as a perfect smartwatch, especially at a much lower price than Apple Watch Ultra 2you have to consider a number of inherent flaws and obvious weaknesses before pulling the trigger. The Galaxy Watch Ultra, for example, unfortunately lacks the iconic rotating bezel of last year’s (significantly cheaper) Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, while also being undeniably too bulky and heavy.
