Planned expansion of the wind turbine factory

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy has submitted a planning application to expand its wind turbine factory in Hull.

Planning documents show the move will create 40 extra jobs at the Alexandra Dock plant.

It was proposed to build a multifunctional production building along with a small social building for employees.

Hull City Council will decide whether to grant planning permission for the development.

According to the application for a building permit, assuming that 40 new employees will be employed, a total of 1,624 people will be employed at the Siemens plant.

The document states that “the main building is intended to expand the plant’s production and repair capabilities.”

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, air-source heat pumps will be used instead of gas-fired boilers.

The application states that the expansion of the Siemens facilities “will deliver significant economic, social and environmental benefits to Hull”.

Workers at the plant hand-build wind turbine blades measuring 108 m (354 ft) long.

In July, around 300 factory workers were called to go on strike in a wage dispute.

Last week, the Unite union said the dispute had been called off after the union agreed an 8.4% deal.
