Thane techie cheated of Rs 91 lakh in stock market scam

A 40-year-old software engineer from Thane district in Maharashtra was allegedly duped of Rs 91.05 lakh in a stock trading scam, police said on Monday.

The police have initiated proceedings in this case against three people.

An official at Manpada police station said that the accused had been in touch with the woman, a resident of Shankeshwar Nagar in Dombivli, between July 2 and August 6 and had been trying to persuade her to trade in shares, assuring her of good profits.

For trading in shares, they roped the woman into various social media groups and she invested Rs 91,05,000, hoping for good returns, he said.

However, when she did not receive the promised refunds and the accused ignored her calls, she filed a complaint with the police on Sunday.

The police said that based on the complaint, proceedings were initiated against three persons under relevant legal provisions.
