It was only a matter of time before Sonos graced the world with a pair of noise-cancelling headphones. For years, the company has been revered for its wireless speakers, soundbars, and other AV peripherals, which brings us to the Sonos Ace. These ANC headphones offer a comfortable fit, excellent performance, and a very cool feature called TV Audio Swap.

As literal as it sounds, TV Audio Swap lets you listen to any audio streamed through your Sonos soundbar, whether it’s a Sonos Arc, Sonos Beam (Gen 1 and 2), or Sonos Ray, with your Sonos Ace headphones. Of course, both devices need to be set up correctly for this feature to work, so we went ahead and created these step-by-step instructions for connecting your Sonos gear.

How to Set Up and Use TV Audio Swap

The feature that lets you connect and share audio between your Sonos Ace headphones and your Sonos soundbar is called TV Audio Swap. Here’s how to set it up:

Step 1: To get started, grab any phone or tablet that has the Sonos app installed. If this is your first time opening the app, you’ll also need to create a Sonos account.

Step 2: After logging in, click the button System settings gear icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Select your Sonos Ace headphones from the list of registered Sonos devices.

Step 4: Scroll to the bottom of the settings panel and tap Add TV sound replacement.

Step 5: Click Organize something button that appears, then select your Sonos Arc, Beam, or Ray soundbar from the list of devices. If one of these soundbars is the only Sonos soundbar you have, you can simply tap To continue.

Step 6: At this point, TV Audio Swap should be activated. Test by playing a movie or show. If all the sound comes out of the Sonos Ace headphones and you can control the volume of the on-screen content with the cans, you’re good to go!

How to Send Audio Back to Your Sonos Soundbar

Once you’ve had enough of the sound from your headphones, sending it back to your Sonos soundbar is incredibly easy. There are two methods:

Step 1: If you don’t feel like opening the Sonos app, just press and hold the main button Content Key on the right earcup of your Sonos Ace headphones. This will automatically send audio back to your Sonos soundbar.

Step 2: You can also reverse TV Audio Swap using the Sonos app. Simply open the app and tap the yellow Change back button. As long as you are playing audio on Sonos Ace, this button should be visible.

Step 3: If audio is already playing through the Sonos soundbar, Change back the option will be replaced with white Replace button that will route audio to your Sonos Ace headset. You can also use the Sonos app to turn on and off spatial audio and head tracking for the Sonos Ace.

Which Sonos soundbars use TV Audio Swap?

Sonos TV Audio Swap is available on Sonos Arc, Sonos Beam (Gen 1 and 2), and Sonos Ray.

Is Sound Swap the same as TV Audio Swap?

In a way, yes. Sound Swap and TV Audio Swap are wireless Sonos features that let you instantly share audio between two different Sonos speakers. But here’s how they differ: Sound Swap is only for Sonos Roam speakers, while TV Audio Swap is only for Sonos Ace headphones and Sonos Arc, Beam, and Ray soundbars.

With Sound Swap, when you press and hold the play/pause button on a speaker, your Sonos Roam will capture audio from a nearby Sonos speaker or speaker group.
