Finger Lakes Fire Department Volunteers Warn OSHA Rules Could Threaten Operations

Local volunteer firefighters, joined by Rep. Claudia Tenney, on Monday voiced strong opposition to proposed OSHA regulations they say could financially cripple small fire departments.

In a speech at the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department, officials told 13WHAM-TV that the 22 new regulations, which require expensive facility upgrades and extensive training, could force some volunteer fire departments to close.

Tenney stressed the need to find a balance between public safety and the financial realities of volunteer firefighters, suggesting that some regulations could be changed or eliminated without compromising safety.
