Maharashtra govt reforms land tenure and infrastructure policy

The Maharashtra Cabinet on Tuesday gave the green light to convert over one lakh acres of Class II land in Marathwada region into freehold status, giving full ownership to the existing residents. The move is expected to have a significant positive impact on the residents.

Class II occupation, conditional possession with restrictions, had been a hurdle for nearly 60 years. Government officials said amendments to the Hyderabad Atiyat Enquiries Act, 1952 and the Hyderabad Abolition of Inams and Cash Grants Act, 1954, were necessary for the conversion.

Moreover, the government revised the budget for construction of 6,000 km of concrete roads, increasing the state contribution to Rs 11,089 crore. The concession deadline for power looms was extended to March 2025, while plans to set up solar power plants in Yavatmal, Washim and Chandrapur districts were also approved.
