Congress leaders criticise TMC over death of resident doctor in West Bengal

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has slammed the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government in West Bengal following the tragic death of a woman doctor. He condemned the state administration for its indecisive approach to the case, highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation and accusing the government of complicity in helping the accused.

Meanwhile, Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury expressed her concern over the incident, stressing that such incidents should be prevented and safety of doctors should be ensured. Chowdhury said that the expectations of common people should never be dashed and stood firm in solidarity with the medical community. She noted Mamata Banerjee’s pledge to order a CBI inquiry if arrests are not made by Sunday.

The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday ordered a CBI probe into the sexual assault and murder of a postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. The court directed the Kolkata Police to immediately hand over all relevant documents for the probe.

In a related development, the Calcutta High Court has directed former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandip Ghosh, to file an application for leave following his appointment at the Calcutta National Medical College, an appointment that had sparked protests. Several PILs on the matter were also heard by a division bench of the Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.

The victim was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and the investigation confirmed rape and murder. The deceased had signs of struggle, including scratch marks. The allegations of the victim’s family indicated that she was raped before being murdered.
