Bird Construction secures five projects worth over CAD$575 million in Canada

Bird Construction has been awarded five projects with a total value of more than C$575 million ($418.61 million) across Canada.

The company has secured a civil and concrete works package for Dow’s Path2Zero project, an initiative to create the world’s first net-zero emissions petrochemical facility.

In late 2023, Dow Chemical announced it would invest C$6.5 billion in the Path2Zero project to modernize and expand its manufacturing facility in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

The project aims to reduce Dow’s global ethylene emissions by approximately 20% and increase polyethylene supplies by approximately 15%.

Meanwhile, 2NationsBird, a joint venture between Bird, Willow Cree Developments and FLFN Ventures, has been awarded the contract to provide foundations and underground utilities for SaskPower’s Aspen Power Station project.

This 370 MW power plant is expected to enhance renewable energy production and ensure a reliable energy supply in Saskatchewan.

In addition, Bird’s maintenance, repair and operations team signed a five-year master services agreement with a long-standing customer.

This is in line with the company’s objective to diversify its activities within the sector and expand its services across major geographic areas.

Following completion of the first year, Bird’s team was awarded a second year of work under the Port Hope Area Initiative Master Construction Contract with Canadian Nuclear Laboratories.

Additionally, the Bird British Columbia (BC) Buildings team has been selected to deliver another long-term care project in British Columbia.

Bird President and CEO Teri McKibbon said, “We continue to build on our diverse portfolio of projects across multiple sectors, with solid support from multi-year recurring revenue awards. Our proven track record of successfully delivering early stage work on large industrial projects strategically positions us to pursue full project lifecycle opportunities.

“Given the strong demand in our target sectors, we remain disciplined in our project selection and focused on delivering solid performance through 2024 and beyond, while continuing to create value for our shareholders.”

Bird Construction recently reported net income of CAD $21.39 million for the second quarter of 2024.
