X Announces Global Passkey Login for Android Users

Passkey is a unique security feature that eliminates the need for a password and provides a better alternative. Given its ease of use and better security, popular social media apps like TikTok and WhatsApp have already adopted the feature. Now, there’s a new addition to that list. Today, X announced that it’s rolling out passkey login support to its Android app.

You can now enable passkey login in the X app for Android

Earlier this morning, the company posted on its @Safety account on X about the rollout of the security option. It should be noted that support for key login has been available for iOS users in the United States since January.

In April, X announced the rollout of the security feature to all iOS users worldwide. However, support for Android apps has been a long time coming, but it’s finally here. X not only announced support for passkey login for Android users, but also detailed how to enable it.

Here’s how to enable the security option

To enable passkey login for your X account, log in to it using the Android app. Then tap the “Your account” section in the navigation bar. Then tap “Settings & privacy.” On the next screen, tap “Security & account access,” then “Security.”

Now you can find “Passkey” in the “Additional Password Protection” section, just tap on it. Then you will be asked to enter your X account password, enter it. Finally, tap “Add Key” and follow the on-screen instructions.

Don’t forget that you can also remove passkey logins on X by following the steps above, except for the last one. Once you’re on the “Passkey” screen, you can find the “Remove Passkey” option, just tap on it. It’s worth noting that this option is only available if the passkey is already there. That said, you can also opt out of passkey authentication on your X account at any time.
