How to Remove Apple ID from iPhone: Step-by-Step Guide

You may need to remove your Apple ID from your iPhone for a variety of reasons, such as selling your device, transferring it to someone else, or troubleshooting issues. It’s important to follow the correct steps to ensure your data is safe and your device is properly prepared for a new user. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to remove your Apple ID from your iPhone.

  1. Back up your data

Before deleting your Apple ID, it is important to back up your data to prevent loss. You can use iCloud or iTunes (or Finder in macOS Catalina and later) to back up your information.

  1. Using iCloud
  • Make sure your iPhone is connected to a Wi-Fi network.
  • Open Settings app.
  • Select your name at the top of the screen to access your Apple ID settings.
  • To obtain iCloud and then iCloud backup.
  • To ensure iCloud backup is on and touch Back up now to start the backup process.

Using iTunes or Finder

  • Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  • Open iTunes (for macOS Mojave and earlier) or Finder (for macOS Catalina and later).
  • Click your iPhone icon in iTunes or Finder.
  • To choose Back up now under Backups section. Provide Encrypt iPhone backup check this option if you want to password protect your backup.
  1. Sign out of iCloud

To remove your Apple ID from your iPhone, you must first sign out of iCloud.

Start Settings app on your iPhone.

Click your name at the top of the screen to open your Apple ID settings.

Scroll down and tap Log out. You may need to enter your Apple ID password for confirmation.

You will be asked to choose which data you want to keep on your iPhone. Toggle the switches for the data you want to keep (e.g. contacts, calendars).

To obtain Log out again to confirm. Your device will now be disconnected from iCloud and Apple services.

  1. Remove Apple ID from iTunes and App Store

In addition to iCloud, you should also sign out of the iTunes Store and App Store.

Return to Settings app.

Click your Apple ID at the top of the screen, then select Log out.

  1. Remove Apple ID from device

If you’re preparing an iPhone for a new user or selling it, you should completely remove your Apple ID from the device.

Go to Settings app.

To obtain Generalthen scroll down and tap Set.

To choose Erase all content and settings. You will be asked to enter your device passcode and Apple ID password to confirm the action.

To obtain Erase iPhone to start the process. This will erase all data, settings, and your Apple ID from the device.

  1. Remove a device from your Apple ID account

For added security, you should also remove the device from your Apple ID online.

Go to appleid.apple.com and log in with your Apple ID.

Scroll down to Devices and select the iPhone you want to erase.

Crash Remove from account and confirm. This step ensures that the device will no longer be associated with your Apple ID.

  1. Check for deletion

Once you’ve completed these steps, check to see if your Apple ID is already associated with your iPhone. You can do this by checking to see if you’re already signed into iCloud or iTunes & App Store on the device and if it’s listed in your Apple ID account online.
