Latest Harris vs. Trump presidential poll: Changing numbers show growing lead

Democrat Kamala Harris is weighing her lead over Republican candidate Donald Trump, according to a new national poll.

A Morning Consult poll of more than 11,000 registered voters shows Vice President Harris leading former President Trump by 4 percentage points, 48% to 44%, with 4% undecided. The latest results show a 1 percentage point improvement for Harris from last week’s poll.

Harris has not trailed Trump in any daily poll since President Joe Biden dropped out of the race in late July.

Both candidates have strong support from their parties, with 90% of Democrats supporting Harris and 89% of Republicans supporting Trump. Independents currently favor Harris, 42% to 38%, with 20% supporting someone else or listed as undecided.

A majority of voters have favorable views of Harris — 50% to 45%, a record high for the presumptive Democratic nominee, according to Morning Consult. Trump’s favorability rating rose to minus 5, the latest in a rising trend over the past two weeks.

Confirmation of Vice Presidential Candidate

The approval numbers for Harris’ vice presidential nominee Tim Walz and Trump’s vice presidential nominee J.D. Vance are the same at 39%. But Vance’s disapproval rating is higher at 41% compared to Walz’s 36%. Vance has seen his raw approval rating rise in recent weeks, from a low of minus 13.

The Morning Consult poll was conducted August 16-18 among 11,501 registered voters with a margin of error of plus or minus 1 percentage point.
