E-commerce Spending Is Soaring at Target, Walmart, and More as Amazon’s Prime Day Takes Place | Insights

Problem

Sales events mimicking major retailers precede Amazon Prime Day and have proven successful for many digital storefronts. Walmart and Target are among the top brands to see gains from these early sales events, while Temu and TikTok have also expanded into modern events.

Ahead of Prime Day (July 16-17), Target held Target Deal Days (June 20-22) and Target Circle Week (July 7-13), while Walmart held Walmart+ Week (June 17-23) and Walmart Deals Sale (July 8-11). U.S. consumer sales for both companies rose 5% year over year in the week ending June 23 and 3% in the week ending July 14.

Amazon Prime Day 2024 alone saw a 6 percent increase in U.S. consumer sales compared to the 2023 event.

This year, Prime Day helped boost online sales across all retail stores in the U.S. increase of 11% Compared to those two dates in 2023, Adobe estimates that U.S. consumers spent $14.2 billion during those 48 hours.

Other copycat techniques are also proving their worth to established brands. Gap — expected to see e-commerce growth in fiscal 2025, its first in four years — and TikTok are boosting their sales prospects by copying the way Shein Group Ltd. fast fashion inspired by social media.
