Are Modern Cars ‘Trash’? This Expert Says

The automotive expert recently repeated in another video that “the new cars coming to showrooms are complete garbage” after claiming that in five years he will have to throw away his new Ford Bronco.

TikToker and car enthusiast Nav Gill (@navsgarage) first gained popularity when he claimed that car manufacturers were deliberately degrading the quality of their cars.

In another video, he shares his opinion that the incentive to build durable gas-powered vehicles has been removed for a variety of reasons, but primarily due to new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and corporate greed. The video has been viewed more than 13,000 times since it was posted.

Gill cites a number of EPA regulations that he believes could stifle manufacturing and innovation. For example, AP News reports that in March, the EPA issued a new auto regulation to restrict coal-powered vehicles and change the auto industry so that electric vehicles make up 56 percent of new vehicle sales by 2032.

“The new cars that come out of showrooms are just garbage,” Gill said. “There are a couple of reasons. Number one, the EPA. Number two, they want to make an incredible amount of money. If they’re forcing you to buy a new car every three to five years, well, they’re going to sell more cars in the long run.”

Cars are getting worse

JD Power conducted an Initial Quality Study (IQS) in the United States that found that the problem of deteriorating vehicle quality is more widespread than most people realize.

“The automotive industry is facing a wide range of quality issues unseen in IQS’s 37-year history,” Frank Hanley, senior director of automotive benchmarking at J.D. Power, said in a statement. “From persistent issues carried over from previous years to an increase in new types of issues, today’s new vehicles are more complex — offering new and exciting technology — but not always satisfying owners.”

Gill believes that automakers are deliberately making cars worse so people have to buy new ones every five years. He also believes that this is a deliberate move to force Americans to use electric vehicles.

“They want these cars to break down, so they force you to buy an electric vehicle,” he said.

America Can’t Handle the Electricity Transition

For Gill, the issue isn’t just about declining vehicle quality, but also about sustainability. He makes this point by discussing how new electric and hybrid vehicles are supposedly straining infrastructure.

“The problem is we don’t have enough energy to provide everyone with access to electric cars,” he said.

Unfortunately for EV enthusiasts, Gill is right. According to Gov Tech, the United States will need an additional 15 to 27 terawatt-hours of electricity by 2050 to power EVs. What’s more, the shift to more renewable energy sources will also strain the electricity grid, making it harder for people to adequately charge their vehicles.

In the comments, many viewers agreed with Gill’s assessment of modern cars.

“I will NEVER buy this electric garage!! I will keep driving my older cars,” said one.

“We should all stop buying cars we can’t work on…let’s keep our old cars!” agreed another.

“It’s crazy that early 2000s Lexuses outlasted all new cars,” added a third.

Another suggested: “Let’s just drive modified ’90s Honda Civics.”
