GitHub study shows regional differences in AI usage among programmers and developers

According to a study conducted by GitHub, many software engineers are using AI extensively, but there are some regional differences in their usage. GitHub surveyed 2,000 respondents, mostly programmers, data scientists, and developers, from different regions such as India, Brazil, Germany, and the US. Overall, 97% of the respondents said that they have used AI in their work in some way or another. Many software development teams are also working on developing better and improved AI systems for their enterprises.

Regional data showed that a combined 82% of respondents from Brazil and the US use AI both at work and outside of work. In India, 40% of respondents reported using AI both at work and outside of work, while 39% of respondents from India said their workplace allows but does not encourage AI. 49% of respondents from the US reported that they allow but encourage AI.

In Germany, 70% of respondents said they could use AI at work and at home, but only 27% use it at work. GitHub reported that many individual organizations in Germany do not promote the use of AI, and 14% of companies discourage the use of AI. In other countries surveyed, the percentage of discouragement is not as high. Because AI can bring many benefits to developers, many companies in different countries are slowly adapting to it.
