F1 to investigate legality of Alex Albon’s car at Williams

Formula 1 stewards will investigate the legality of Alex Albon’s Williams car after FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer ruled the car’s new floor was illegal.

Williams has made a number of improvements to its car for this year’s Dutch Grand Prix, including a new floor and diffuser.

Albon finished eighth at Zandvoort on Saturday – his best result of the season – but when the FIA checked the car after the session, it was found that the floor of the bodywork was “outside the permitted volume”.

The FIA technical delegate referred the matter to the stewards, who summoned a representative of the Williams team on Saturday evening.

If the stewards determine that the car’s floor does not meet the regulations, Albon will be disqualified from Saturday’s qualifying.

When Williams detailed its upgrades ahead of the weekend, it stated: “The floor is fully updated as part of an all-new floor geometry. The front floor height is increased and the fences are re-profiled. The floor edges are updated, with more pronounced toe geometry.”

Albon’s Williams team-mate Logan Sargeant missed qualifying after a serious crash during final practice at Zandvoort.
