Related to Possible Fraud of ‘Majestic’ Proportions: Pepper Pike Police Chronicle

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio

Suspicion, possible fraud: Chagrin Boulevard

On August 21, a representative from Majestic Steel went to a police station to report that the Pepper Pike-based company was receiving calls from people responding to inquiries from a fake recruiter offering them job positions.

The unsuspecting candidates provided the fraudster with copies of their driver’s licenses. Police say that may have been the only amount of personal information obtained.

As a result, the steel distributor and processor received many calls from people who thought they would soon get a job.

The supplemental report indicated that potential candidates were recruited through LinkedIn, where technicians blocked a domain name that was likely behind an as-yet-unknown scheme.

Auto thefts, break-ins: Brewster, Chatham roads

Three residents on neighboring streets reported on Aug. 21 that someone had broken into their unlocked cars during the night — one on Brewster Street and two on Chatham Street.

One of the cars was parked in a garage where the occupant had left the door open. Items taken included sunglasses and a wallet containing a library card and various gift cards.

Identity Theft: Shaker Boulevard

A resident reported receiving a bill for $650 on Aug. 20 from a collection agency for a credit card fraudulently opened in his name, dated December 2022.

He requested a documentary report in order to cancel the debt.

Building Code Violations: Gates Mills Boulevard

On Aug. 20, police issued two misdemeanor tickets to a 73-year-old homeowner for building code violations recorded by the city’s building department. One was for maintenance duties related to the grounds, and the other was for tall weeds and grass.

Arrest Warrants Served: Gates Mills Boulevard

North Royalton police said Aug. 19 they arrested a 32-year-old Mayfield Heights man who turned out to be wanted on an arrest warrant issued by Pepper Pike for failing to appear in Shaker Heights Municipal Court on a 12-point suspended driver’s license.

In January, he also got a ticket for speeding 70 mph in a 35 mph zone on Gates Mills Boulevard.

— Then on Aug. 22, Cuyahoga County sheriffs notified Pepper Pike police that a 30-year-old Cleveland man was in jail with an outstanding warrant for his arrest from 2019 for driving while suspended.

Both men were arrested by Pepper Pike police and taken to Beachwood Jail.
