Thanks to the cooperation of the traffic department with a private mobile mapping application, passengers will be able to keep track of the traffic situation in the city.

Speaking to TOI, DCP Traffic Sri Sagar said the department had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with MapmyIndia app around two months ago. Apart from real-time traffic updates, the app also provides comprehensive information including speed limits on specific roads, black spots, traffic jams and potential diversions.

“Real-time traffic information will enable commuters to plan their journeys more efficiently, avoiding congested areas and dangerous routes. Once the app is downloaded on their mobile phones, users will receive alerts about accident-prone zones, urging them to be extra vigilant while navigating in these areas,” Sagar said.

Company representatives said the app’s biggest advantage is its ability to inform users about road closures and proposed detours in real time, as well as warn about traffic jams.

TOI first reported about this initiative by the Jaipur city police on June 14.

Traffic officials said the app will also display fixed information such as speed limits on various city roads, speed camera locations and sections where drivers must cross railway gates, underpasses or railway viaducts.

The app will constantly send drivers warnings about speed limiters installed on city roads, potentially dangerous bends and black spots identified by the department, displaying warnings around 200-300 metres before the driver reaches the location.

“We believe that this solution will not only help reduce the number of accidents on city roads but also make driving on city roads more comfortable,” added Sagar.
