UGC-NET Candidates: NET Candidates Face Disruption on UGC-NET Test Day in Kolkata | Kolkata News

NET candidates fear disruptions on test day

Kolkata: Naihati resident Santosh Rangwa, a garment trader whose children are scheduled to appear for the UGC-NET Hindi exam, is not sure whom he will accompany to the exam centre on Tuesday when Nabanna Abhiyan has been scheduled. His daughter Neha has to go to Kalyani for the exam in the second half of August 27 and his son Rahul has to go to Salt Lake for the exam in the first half.
Students who have philosophy and language subjects, including Hindi, will write exams in two rounds on Tuesday and are expecting problems getting to classes. examination centers or returning home.
Neha said, “I had planned to go alone. In June last year, I had gone alone for the exam, but it was later cancelled. I really want to clear the exam. But now, because of this call for a huge gathering and rally, there will be a lot of confusion. My parents are very worried. This time, my father can go with me. But my brother also has an exam on the same day, in the second half, in Salt Lake.”
Santosh said his son had to leave home early to attend the exam scheduled at 9.30 am, which would end at 12.30 pm.
Rahul said, “I want to take the exam peacefully. We had faced trouble earlier when the exam was cancelled. My reporting time for Tuesday’s exam was 7 am. I am tensed because of the exam and now it is an added stress considering the road conditions and train movement. I am not against the protest but it should not interfere with other work. I pray that I can reach the exam hall safely. I have told my father to accompany my sister instead.”
Another student, who declined to be named, said she would appear for her philosophy exam. “My exam was cancelled recently. This time I want to write it at all costs. I want justice and I was also part of the ‘reclaim the night’ protest. But that doesn’t mean that thousands of students will suffer because of the planned disruption.”
The UGC-NET exams were cancelled following allegations of question paper leak. The re-examinations began on August 21 as per the revised schedule released by the National Testing Agency.
Both the West Bengal Police and the Kolkata Police on Sunday posted on X assuring students and parents that there will be enough personnel to help them if they find themselves in trouble. “There will be enough police personnel on the roads on August 27 to ensure the comfort of all UGC-NET Candidates. In case of any emergency, candidates are requested to seek help from the nearest police officer they come across. We will ensure that candidates reach their examination centres on time and safely,” the post reads.
