Liverpool almost made a shock signing on deadline day and could COME BACK in January

Liverpool came close to signing a surprise signing before the end of the transfer window, and the club could sign him as early as the January transfer window.

It hasn’t been the fruitful summer for Liverpool that many fans had hoped for, with the Reds making some smart signings in Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili.

However, Richard Hughes and his recruitment team have also failed to address serious gaps in the squad, including at No.6 and centre-back.

This means that Arne Slot will continue the season, even though his team is still plagued by injuries in some areas.

While Hughes may not have bolstered his options this summer, there was one player the Reds were close to signing before the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool almost signed Cesar Huerta before the end of the transfer window

Liverpool were reportedly “very close” to completing a deal for one player before the end of the transfer period, according to a report from ESPN.

The club were keen to sign 23-year-old Mexican winger Cesar Huerta before loaning him to Sunderland.

However, despite the player coming close to and eventually reaching an agreement with Cesar Huerta, Sunderland scuppered the club’s plans and the Championship club pulled out of the loan deal.

According to ESPN, this may not be the end of the road for Huerta, with Liverpool and the Reds potentially looking to bring him to the club as early as the January transfer window.

Last season in Mexico’s top flight, Huerta was involved in 21 goals from the winger position and played 41 games.

He is clearly a talented player with a lot of potential and it is clear that Liverpool have targeted him as a potential future player for Arne Slot or potentially even as an option for FSG’s ambitions to build a multi-club model in the coming years under the leadership of Michael Edwards.
