Modest Mouse Sells Vintage Music Gear From Frontman Isaac Brock’s Collection on Reverb

Modest Mouse sells vintage musical gear on Reverb, including Moog synthesizers, a Korg drum machine, a Soursound Audio Custom Amp, and old Soviet-era gear.

In a video posted to Reverb’s YouTube channel, frontman Issac Brock admits that he has a habit of accumulating too much gear that often sits unused, which is why he got rid of over 500 pieces of his massive collection.

The store will launch on September 5, and its online description says that some of this gear has traveled the world with Modest Mouse, and now the “company is giving it away” to its fans.

Talking about how he managed to amass such a large collection, Brock said, “I would go to the record store and buy anything I thought was interesting.

“I could just give it away or sell it, but then I wouldn’t do that—I’d think, eh—one day you’ll have a purpose. I’d panic that if I didn’t have a bunch of new gadgets and tools to work with, I’d just keep making the same songs.”

In the film, Brock said, “A big part of the reason I decided to get rid of the things I like is that I have option fatigue. If I’m interested in something, I’m too interested in it for a short period of time. So I ended up buying every crappy drum machine I could find.”

The Modest Mouse Reverb store will feature a Moog Mother-32 and Arp Odyssey, several Fender amps, rare pedals like the Electro-Harmonix Rhythm-12 and an original MIJ Boss Chorus Ensemble, and a 50-watt Soursound Audio Custom Amp complete with carrying case.

In addition, Modest Mouse will also unbox three gold Telefunken M80 microphones from various tours of the band, Soviet-era gear such as a Polivox Polyvox and two Soviet-made Lell UDS analog drum synthesizers, Modest Mouse gadgets, stadium seats from a 1956 Elvis Presley concert, and a Moog Voyager XL, which Brock describes in the film as “too pretty for me.”

Last month, Modest Mouse announced details of a US tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of their album Good News For People Who Love Bad News.

The release comes after the band celebrated its milestone anniversary earlier this year by sharing a reissue consisting of an expanded version of the LP – featuring eight additional remixes from artists including MGMT’s Andrew VanWyngarden (“The View”), Jacknife Lee (“Bury Me With It”), Dan the Automator (“Float On”) and Justin Raisen (“The Good Times Are Killing Me”).

The Modest Mouse 2024 tour, which will run from late October through November, will kick off with an opening night at The Republik in Honolulu on October 28. Other tickets for the US shows can be found here.
