San Francisco Giants third baseman among baseball’s best

September is finally here and the long baseball season is coming to an end for the San Francisco Giants. The Giants will have a number of significant games down the stretch as they attempt to make a final push for the playoffs.

While the playoffs may be unlikely for the Giants this season in the ultra-competitive National League West, they have had some bright spots this season. Two of their offseason acquisitions, Matt Chapman and Blake Snell, have had excellent seasons.

Chapman has become one of the best offseason moves in all of baseball, as he leads the Giants in home runs, RBIs, and slugging. It has been a great season for Chapman so far, as he has a .247 batting average, 21 home runs, and 67 RBIs. The San Francisco third baseman has not only been their best hitter, but also one of the best players at his position in all of baseball.

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter recently ranked his top 10 third basemen in the league as September approaches. Jose Ramirez came in first, while Matt Chapman of the San Francisco Giants came in third behind Ramirez and Rafael Devers.

“This year’s Guardians lineup features the best secondary José Ramírez has had in years. With the added protection, he has posted his second 30/30 season in his career, slashing .276/.333/.531 with 31 doubles, 33 home runs, 104 RBI and 34 steals. The 31-year-old remains baseball’s most underrated superstar.”

While Chapman is having a great season, the fact that Ramirez and Devers are ranked above him shouldn’t come as a surprise. Both of those players are having great seasons with their teams and are two of the best players in all of baseball.

The Giants will have some big decisions to make about Chapman this offseason. San Francisco’s offense without Chapman doesn’t exactly inspire fear in anyone, and Chapman could capitalize on his stellar offseason by opting out.

At 31, Chapman should still have a few good years left in him, and the Giants should try to sign him to a four- or five-year deal if he opts out, as many expect. As he enters the crucial phase, Chapman will look to establish himself as one of the best third basemen in baseball for the rest of the season.
