Batman spin-off The Penguin set to be released in the UK | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV

The Batman spin-off is set to be released on British TV later this month. After audiences were first introduced to Matt Reeve’s vision of Gotham and its characters in his 2022 film, Colin Farrell has taken on the role of the Penguin in his own series of the same name.

The eight-part drama series from Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios will focus on Oz Cobb a week after the events of The Batman and his rise to power in Gotham’s criminal underworld. Fans can see elements of the classic HBO series The Sopranos in the new crime drama, which is set to continue Reeve’s vision of the Batman universe.

Penguin stars Oscar nominee Farrell, alongside Cristin Milioti, Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O’Connell, Clancy Brown and Michael Zegen.

The season opener will air on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW on Friday 20 September. That will be a day later than in the US, so UK viewers will need to avoid online spoilers. Each episode will air weekly.

Colin Farrell received widespread acclaim for his portrayal of the Penguin, but make-up and prosthetics rendered him unrecognizable.

The series is executive produced by Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, who serves as writer and showrunner, Craig Zobel, who is directing the first three episodes, Bill Carraro and Daniel Pipski.

Based on the characters created for DC by Bob Kane with Bill Finger, The Penguin is produced by Reeves’ 6th & Idaho Productions and Dylan Clark Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television, with Reeves and 6th & Idaho under overall deal.

Lucy Criddle, Sky’s Director of Acquisitions and Strategic Projects, previously said: “The Penguin is a fantastic addition to our growing slate of comic book films and series. Set in the grim world of Gotham City in chaos, the story continues Batman’s epic crime saga and I can’t wait to see Farrell take this iconic character to new heights in this eight-part limited drama series.”
