My Favorite Smart Light Control Gadget Is Almost 25% Off Today for Labor Day

I have so many ways to control my Philips Hue lights at home — via the Google Nest Hub, Pixel Watch 2, or Pixel 9 Pro XL — that you might think I’d have no reason to look for another lighting control device. Why would I?

But when Philips launched its Hue Wall Tap Dial Light SwitchI was immediately intrigued by this and decided to get one with the expectation that I would probably return it. But the complete opposite happened. I use it daily instead of all the other methods I used.

The Dial will cost $50 and is almost never on sale. So if you want to buy one and you see everyone kind of discount, I would suggest you just take advantage of it. The biggest discount I’ve ever seen is happening right now, thanks to Amazon’s Labor Day sale. Today, Tap Dial is 7% offbut you can apply an additional 15% coupon, which will allow you to save almost 25% on a device that is rarely available for sale.

If the usual high prices of Hue products don’t suit you, you can now find even bigger discounts on the excellent Govee lighting.

What I like about this light switch

The Dial itself looks like a hockey puck with four buttons on the dial, with a rotating outer wheel to brighten or dim the lights. The four buttons have small dots numbered 1 to 4, so you can feel which button you’re pressing, even in the dark. The buttons can be assigned to a single lighting scene, cycle through all scenes, or activate an automation you’ve created in the Philips Hue app. The amount of customization you can do with this device is impressive.

There’s something interesting about going back to a physical object to control your lights when the original idea was to break away from the light switch. There’s the more traditional light switch plate that you can mount on the wall (I have mine next to my dusty, neglected light switch). The plate itself is magnetic, so you can easily place it on the plate or stick it on your fridge or anywhere else.

If I had one complaint about the Dial, it would be a very specific one, namely that it only works with one room or “zone” in the house at a time. While you can reassign the Dial to a different room from the app, I’d like to have the option to have each button control different scenes for different rooms. I tend to only use one button, since it cycles through my scenes, leaving the other three buttons largely untouched.

This particular complaint probably won’t matter to most people, but it doesn’t stop me from recommending this product. Philips Hue Wall Tap Dial Light Switch. For more, check out the best Labor Day deals under $25.
