ONDC wins award for new technology

The Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) award was given for leveraging new technologies to enable 12 million orders per month and empower small businesses.

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) The government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) initiative on Tuesday received a gold award for its use of new technologies.

ONDC is an initiative of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

The aim of the project is to promote an open platform for all aspects of e-commerce and to help small retailers grow their business through e-commerce and limit the dominance of giants in this sector.

The network currently processes over 12 million orders per month, spanning categories ranging from fashion and electronics for products to transportation and metro tickets for services.

More than 600,000 sellers from all over India have connected with us.

The Gold award in the category of ‘Application of Emerging Technologies in Delivery of Citizen-Centric Services’ under the National e-Governance Awards (NAeG) was given to Sanjiv, Deputy Secretary, DPIIT, and other officials from the department in Mumbai.

The National e-Government Awards, presented by the Department of Administrative Reform and Public Grievances (DARPG), are among the most competitive and prestigious digital governance awards in the country.

“The aim of the award is to recognise and promote excellence in the implementation of e-government initiatives and to encourage innovation in effective e-government solutions,” the Ministry of Trade and Industry said.

He added that ONDC empowers a wide range of sellers, including hundreds of thousands of small businesses, artisans, women entrepreneurs, farmers and street vendors, to compete effectively and reach a wider audience.
