Kolkata Metro hits record passenger earnings after 13 years

The Kolkata Metro achieved a significant milestone by earning over Rs 1.33 crore from passengers on September 2. This is the highest passenger revenue recorded in the last 13 years, according to a statement issued by the authorities on Tuesday.

This record was surpassed only by the revenues of Rs 1.47 crore earned in a single day on August 1, 2011, making it the second highest ever daily revenues by the Kolkata Metro.

The Kolkata Metro, which started operations in 1984, recorded around 7.5 lakh passengers on September 2, travelling on various lines including the Blue Line, Green Line-1, Green Line-2, Purple Line and Orange Line. Of these, over 6.3 lakh passengers travelled on the Blue Line alone, while around 56,000 travelled on the Green Line-2 and around 51,500 travelled on the Green Line-1. Metro Railway CEO P. Uday Kumar Reddy expressed gratitude to the people of Kolkata and surrounding districts for choosing Kolkata Metro as their preferred mode of transport.
