Elon Musk launches X TV app for live streaming on Smart TVs

Elon Musk has launched X TV, a live streaming app for smart TVs. The app promises to be a hybrid platform that delivers live content and viral videos.

What is “X TV” live streaming app?

The X TV beta app is now live. Elon Musk, the billionaire who took over Twitter and renamed it X, has launched X TV.

X TV is a live streaming app. Musk has offered X TV only for smart TVs. According to Digital Trends, X TV is now available on Google Play, the LG app store, and the Amazon App Store. This means the app can run on Amazon Fire TV, LG webOS, Android TV, and Google TV.

X has been quietly rolling out the app to smart TV app stores. The Amazon App Store has had the app since late July. However, the LG app store began offering the app on August 29, 2024.

The X TV app description on Google Play mentions: “The X app is the trusted global digital town square for everyone, on your TV! Discover a new way to experience the world of X as we deliver unique and engaging content straight to your living room.”

The X TV app listing reportedly has some privacy concerns, but they can’t be verified yet. For example, the app’s privacy policy is similar to X’s. However, the details of the privacy policy or terms of service are not yet available, as the links don’t open. This documentation can’t even be selected in the tvOS version

What will X TV offer?

It’s important to note that X TV is not independent of the microblogging network. In other words, users must have an X account to log in and watch anything.

X currently does not charge any fees, meaning that watching content on X TV is free. Speaking of content, screenshots of the app promise exclusive content, as well as live events and news. Additionally, the app offers other features like Replay TV, which allows users to store up to 72 hours of programming.

The Startover TV feature allows viewers to start the live broadcast from the beginning. The app also has Free Cloud DVR, which allows users to record up to 100 hours of content at no additional cost.

The gradual rollout of the X TV suggests that Elon Musk is taking a very cautious approach. Additionally, the features suggest that the X could be positioning the X TV as a digital replacement for cable TV with a remote or cloud storage.
