WINNERS:

Maud Maron –

Months after New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks fired her for allegedly violating parenting rules, Maud Maron is back on Community Education Council 2. For now, at least. Citing free speech rights, a federal judge ordered the controversial school board member reinstated while she challenges her ouster in court. What were the crimes that led to her expulsion? Making “offensive and insulting” comments about a student—a child, mind you. Truly exemplary behavior from a school principal.

Kenny Burgos –

Property owners are feeling the love. Two major property groups, the Rent Stabilization Association and the Community Housing Improvement Program, have merged into one big, happy family of property owners. And they will be led by the late Assemblyman Kenny Burgos, who is also a new dad! Burgos may have left his former constituents in the lurch, but the members of the newly formed New York Apartment Association will have great representation.

Stuart Applebaum –

Retail workers may have become a little safer with the signing of the Retail Worker Safety Act. The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Workers Union lobbied hard for the bill during this year’s legislative session and scored a major victory when lawmakers approved it before returning home for the year. RWDSU President Stuart Applebaum joined the governor as she signed the bill into law, building on funding included earlier this year as part of the state budget.

LOSERS:

Linda Sun-

The sun is not shining on Hochul’s former aide Linda Sun after the feds charged her with acting as a foreign agent for the Chinese government. Prosecutors say she tried to influence two successive governorships to benefit China and the interests of the ruling party. It’s unclear how successful Sun was or what the Chinese government gained from her subversion, but she and her husband allegedly benefited greatly. Unfortunately, that didn’t last, and Sun now faces a serious prison sentence and the wrath of a scorned boss.

Janno Lieber and Andrew Kimbell –

Awkward!! That little accident that closed all lanes in the Queens-Midtown Tunnel for hours, leading to a complete breakdown of public transit? It turns out someone accidentally drilled an errant hole in the tunnel, causing a “leak.” While the identity of the driller is unknown to the public — as this incident apparently was — it’s a mess that New York City Economic Development Corporation leader Andrew Kimball and MTA boss Janno Lieber are (figuratively) happy to clean up.

Sheena Wright, Philip Banks, David Banks, Edward Caban –

Thursday was a difficult day for the Adams administration, as FBI agents reportedly searched the homes of NYPD Commissioner Edward Cabana, Schools Chancellor David Banks, Deputy Mayors Phil Banks and Sheena Wright, and Schools Chancellor David Banks. (In addition, the phones of the mayor’s top aide, Timothy Pearson, were sniped.) These latest searches should not be confused with the previous FBI searches of Adams aides Rana Abbasova and Brianna Suggs or the separate federal investigation into Adams aide Winnie Greco.
