‘Legacy’ to End with Season 3 on Amazon Freevee

“Bosch: Legacy” will conclude with its third season on Amazon Freevee and Prime Video.

The third season of the series is scheduled to premiere in March 2025. Michael Connelly, whose Harry Bosch novels form the basis of the series, announced the news on Instagram on Friday.

“It was an incredible run with this character,” Connelly wrote. “There’s an overused saying, ‘It takes a village,’ so I’ll just say it takes at least a town to pull off a show like this. We had the best people on the roster. The actors, writers, directors, producers and the whole crew tried to create something special, and they certainly succeeded. I’m very proud of what we did.”

Connelly praised series lead Titus Welliver, who first began playing Detective Harry Bosch in the original series in 2014. “He became the complete embodiment of Harry Bosch, and that was the magic that powered 10 seasons. As a guy who writes books, I can’t tell you how lucky I was when he signed on.”

So ends Amazon’s longest-running scripted series to date. “Bosch” became the unsung hero of the e-commerce giant’s streaming ambitions, airing for seven seasons before “Bosch: Legacy” debuted in 2022. The original show aired on Prime Video while “Legacy” aired on Freevee, but the latter show will bid farewell to both platforms with Season 3.

“Bosch: Legacy” is produced by Fabel Entertainment. The series is executive produced by Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge and Welliver.

But the Bosch-verse won’t end there. Amazon has already greenlit a spin-off series that will focus on Detective Renee Ballard, another character from Connelly’s novels. Maggie Q will play Ballard.

“For a decade, Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have been two of our most defining series for Prime Video, Freevee and Amazon MGM Studios. They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe Michael Connelly created for fans,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We are proud of the impact these shows have had, and we are thrilled that Michael, Titus, Henrik and the creative team have more compelling stories to tell in the world of Bosch with the final season of Bosch: Legacy, our new series Ballard and many more to come.”

“All great things must come to an end, and Bosch and Bosch: Legacy are just that,” Bastin added. “It has been an absolute honor and privilege to executive produce these incredible shows over the past 10-plus years. Playing even a small part in bringing Michael Connelly’s iconic characters to the screen and watching the brilliant Titus Welliver bring Harry Bosch to life will always be a highlight of my career. The Connelly universe lives on, and with Renée Ballard coming to Prime Video soon, I’m sure all the Bosch fans will be thrilled with what’s to come. To everyone who has been with us all these years — the incredible cast and the best crew in the business, the team at Fabel Entertainment — you’ve made it all happen. I want to express my deepest thanks to Amazon MGM Studios, who have been such great partners over the years.” We really appreciate this incredible run! And finally, Michael, thank you for your trust and friendship. I owe you that.”
