Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday assured of restoring independence to Jammu and Kashmir after the general elections, which he said were the first elections held under the national flag and in accordance with the Constitution after the abrogation of Article 370 by the Modi government.

He accused the Congress-National Conference alliance of trying to revive the “old system.”

The NDA government will not allow resurgence of terrorism, ‘autonomy’ and injustice against any community, including Gujjars, Paharis, Bakerwals and Dalits, who have been granted reservation by the BJP, he said.

Shah is in Jammu on a two-day visit to support the BJP’s election campaign ahead of the three-phase assembly elections that begin on September 18.

“The upcoming elections in JK are historic because after independence, elections will be held for the first time under our national flag and constitution, unlike the earlier practice of two flags and two constitutions. We have only one prime minister from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and that is Modi,” Dom told a BJP workers’ rally on Saturday.

Criticising the National Conference-Congress alliance, Shah said they were trying to drag Jammu and Kashmir back into the fire of terrorism even though the government had reduced terror incidents in the union territory by 70 per cent.

“The National Conference and Congress will never be able to form the government in JK, rest assured of that,” Shah told party workers, urging them to ensure the success of BJP candidates in forming the next government.
