David Pocock is calling for urgent legislation to ban AI-based fakes in the upcoming federal election.

The federal government has sought advice from the Election Commission as it faces similar bans to those in South Korea on fake images and videos published using artificial intelligence during the election campaign.

The push for urgent legislation to ban deepfakes comes after independent senator David Pocock released AI-generated videos of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition Leader Peter Dutton. The fake videos showed the pair separately announcing support for a complete ban on gambling advertising.
