How to Record a Phone Call on iPhone

For one reason or another, you may want record a phone call on your iPhone. Maybe you have an important business call and want to make a record that you can refer to, maybe you are waiting for a call from the company regarding a complaint you filed, or you want to record a conversation with a loved one. The only problem is that Apple does not allow recording phone calls.

You may have assumed that there was an iOS app you could use to record calls, but that’s not the case. Interestingly, it’s not just Apple that doesn’t let you record phone calls, as most of the best Android phones don’t either. Still, if you have a top-of-the-line iPhone for gaming and need to record calls, there are ways to do so.

Here are all the ways to record phone calls on iPhone:

Use a second device to record

An easy way to record a conversation on your iPhone is to put your phone in speaker mode and record the conversation using a second device.

This can be a second phone, tablet, or laptop with a recording app installed. Simply tap “record” on the second device and you can record the entire phone conversation using the recording app.

Just remember to set your phone to speaker mode when you call to ensure you can record the entire conversation clearly.

Use Google Voice

Google Voice can only be used to record incoming calls, so you won’t be able to do this if someone calls you. However, if you call someone else, it’s relatively easy.

After downloading the Google Voice app, you need to make sure that recording is enabled. To do this, go to Settings > Calls > Incoming call options > confirm “record call”.

When the call you want to record starts, you can press four on the number pad and the recording will begin. You will hear an AI voice announcing to you and the person who called you that the recording has started. To stop the recording, press four again or hang up.

Once the call ends, the recording will be emailed to you via your Google account.

Use the app to connect three-way calls

While Apple has blocked all recording apps, there is a loophole, namely three-way calling apps like Rev. These apps only work because they use a three-way phone conference setup, where the “third party” is actually the recording line.

Using a 3-way call merger app to record calls isn’t as simple as clicking a button and the call will be recorded, you have to go through a few extra steps. The call merger app records calls by adding it to the call as a third phone number, so you have to manually add the number to the call before it can start recording.

The advantage of using a three-way call merger app to record phone calls on your iPhone is that it can be added to a call at any time, allowing you to record any conversation.

Is recording phone calls legal?

It is important to know the laws regarding consent before recording a conversation. You need to know the laws in your region as well as the laws in the region of the person you are calling. They vary from country to country and, in the US, from state to state.

For example, if you are in a state with a consent law (which allows you to record without telling the other person), you need to make sure they are answering the call from a location that has the same rule. If they are in a consent state, it is illegal to call them without telling them you are recording.
