Kacey Musgraves and Nickel Creek Cover SZA’s “Kill Bill”: Watch

It wasn’t that long ago that Kacey Musgraves was singing about rolling joints and getting too big for her pants. But these days, she’s leaning more and more into country-leaning pop, as evidenced by her latest album A deeper well. Last month, she made a surprise appearance at Sabrina Carpenter’s Outside Lands to perform a cover of Nancy Sinatra’s “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’.” Last week, on the opening night of her own tour, Musgraves performed a cover of Chapel Roan’s “Pink Pony Club,” which is a good thematic segue from cowboys to rodeos. Last night, Musgraves enlisted her support act Nickel Creek to perform an acoustic version of SZA’s “Kill Bill.”

I like to think that Musgraves decided to cover “Kill Bill” because Kill Billmovie, is partly set in her home state of Texas. But she probably chose it simply because it’s a great song (one of the best of 2023, in fact). She and Nickel Creek sang it in a campfire-style circle under a model of Saturn hanging from the ceiling. SZA also has a song titled “Saturn.” Check out some fan-recorded clips of the cover below.
