Former Dodgers Cody Bellinger, Michael Busch Lead Cubs to Landslide Victory Over Old Team – NBC Los Angeles

Michael Busch had four of five hits, including a homer, and scored three runs, Cody Bellinger had three RBIs, including a two-run homer, and the Chicago Cubs beat the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers 10-4 on Monday night.

The Cubs’ offense was held to 16 hits — each player had at least one — in a series loss to the AL East-leading New York Yankees in which they had a combined seven hits and two runs in three games.

Bellinger and Busch gave the Cubs a 3-0 lead with two outs in the first inning against their old team.

Bellinger hit the first pitch, a two-run homer off Walker Buehler (1-5), which also scored Ian Happ, who singled to open the game. The ball sailed 430 feet — halfway across the right-field pavilion — and drew cheers from Chicago fans in the 50,495-seat crowd. Busch added an RBI single.

Busch scored twice deep in left field in the fourth quarter to extend Chicago’s lead to 4-0.

Kyle Hendricks had the bases loaded with two outs in the third inning — when Shohei Ohtani stole his 47th base of the season — but Max Muncy bounced the first throw to Busch at first base, ending the threat.

Hendricks allowed two runs and four hits in 4 1/3 innings. Keegan Thompson (2-1) pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.

Buehler gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings. He struck out four and walked one.

The Dodgers scored twice in the fifth inning on an RBI single by Mookie Betts and a sacrifice bunt by Muncy with the bases loaded to put them down 4-2. Hendricks left the game after the bases were loaded for the second time.

The Cubs extended their lead to 7-2 in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Busch and a two-run single by Miguel Amaya off reliever Anthony Banda with two outs.

The Dodgers pulled to within 7-4 in the seventh inning on Betts’ two-run home run and had a chance to tie it before Shawn Armstrong singled off Gavin Lux to end the inning.
