Tinnitus UK’s next CEO has been suffering from this hearing impairment for a decade

Tinnitus UK has appointed Alex Brooks-Johnson, who has had the condition for ten years, as its new chief executive.

He joined us this month from social care charity Guild Care, where he held the same role for the past five years.

“I am honoured to have been appointed as the new CEO of Tinnitus UK.

“Having lived with tinnitus for 10 years, I am personally and professionally committed to improving the lives of those affected by this condition. I look forward to working with the team to make a real difference.”

The charity supports people with hearing loss, which affects one in seven adults and can include ringing, buzzing and other noises.

The charity’s chair, Lynne Gillon, said: “Tinnitus UK is more important than ever with one in seven people affected by tinnitus.

“We are thrilled to have found a leader with the expertise and passion to take this charity forward. Alex’s experience and vision will be key as we work to enhance our research efforts and expand support for people living with this often devastating disease.”

She added: “We are excited to welcome Alex in September to lead us on the next phase of our journey, focused on strengthening our impact and reaching more people who need our help.”

In March this year, the charity appointed Robin Greenwood as interim chief executive while it recruited for the permanent role.

The last permanent chief executive was Caroline Savage, who joined the charity on a permanent basis in 2023 after serving on an interim basis. She left in February this year.
