Daniel Jones has 1 win, 2 TD passes and 3 touchdowns in the last two seasons

In Sunday’s Giants loss, Daniel Jones didn’t throw a touchdown pass, but he did throw a pick-six. And that’s become pretty typical for Jones over the past few years.

Since signing a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants in the 2023 offseason, Jones has won just one game as a quarterback. He has thrown just two touchdown passes. And he has thrown three interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.

Throwing more touchdowns than touchdown passes represents such brutally bad quarterback play that it’s hard to believe it’s possible, but that’s exactly what Jones did. There are three other quarterbacks who have thrown at least three touchdowns in the last two years, and they’re all poor quarterbacks: Sam Howell, Mac Jones and Bryce Young. But they’ve all thrown at least 10 touchdowns in the last two seasons. Jones has thrown two touchdowns in the last two seasons.

The Giants are now 1-6 in games Jones has started over the past two years. That’s certainly not entirely Jones’ fault, but the Giants have been a better team without him than with him: When Jones missed time with an injury last season, Tommy DeVito was 3-3 as a starter, and Tyrod Taylor was 2-3.

Giants coach Brian Daboll says He can’t imagine Jones being benchedBut unless Jones plays much better in the rush, it’s hard to believe he’ll be the Giants’ quarterback for much longer. If Jones were to suffer a serious injury this year that would prevent him from passing his 2025 physical, he’d be guaranteed $23 million next season. The Giants could soon decide they need to cut their losses and get out of Jones’ contract. His days as the Giants’ quarterback appear numbered.
