How to watch the first presidential debate between Harris and Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will meet on the presidential debate stage for the first time Tuesday night.

While this is technically the second presidential debate of the general election, it is Harris’ first since becoming the Democratic nominee, replacing President Joe Biden as the party’s nominee. It comes after Biden’s disastrous debate performance exacerbated concerns about his age, leading to a split in the party’s support and his ultimate decision to step down and endorse his vice president at the top of the ticket.

This debate is hosted by ABC News, so you can watch it on ABC, ABC News Live, Disney Plus, or Hulu. Other television networks and channels will also broadcast the debate and make it available on YouTube.

The debate will begin at 9:00 p.m. ET at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. The debate will last 90 minutes, with two commercial breaks.

ABC World News Tonight presenter David Muir and ABC News Live Prime The moderator will be Linsey Davis.

As in the first debate, there will be no audience and microphones will be muted unless it is a candidate’s turn. Only moderators can ask questions of Harris and Trump, and there will be no opening statements.

Candidates have two minutes to answer questions and two minutes to rebut. There is also another minute to explain or follow up. They will not have access to previously written notes or campaign staff on stage, but they will have a pen and paper to write things down.

ABC said a virtual coin toss last week decided who would be at which podium and the order of the two-minute closing statements. Trump won the coin toss and chose to deliver his closing statement last. Harris was able to choose her spot at the podium, which will be on the right side of the screen.
