Palms Casino in Las Vegas Chooses Former STRAT Executive as New CEO

Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas has appointed the former general manager of The STRAT to the same position at the off-Strip property.

Stephen Thayer will be the new CEO of the Palms, the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority announced Monday.

Thayer will officially begin her new role next week. She will replace Cynthia Kiser Murphey, who he resigned earlier this summer.

“His leadership style and professional accomplishments speak volumes about his leadership and innovation skills, as well as his enthusiasm for promoting tribal values at Palms, making him the ideal candidate to lead this wonderful property into its next chapter,” Latisha Prieto, chairwoman of SMGHA, said in a statement.

Thayer is credited with spearheading the improvement and renovation of the STRAT property.

Prior to becoming Director of The STRAT, he was Director of Hospitality for Caesars Entertainment in Las Vegas and Atlantic City.

“I am honored to partner with SMGHA and the Palms to ensure the Palms continues to be the place to stay and play in Las Vegas,” Thayer said in a statement. “I look forward to working with the Tribe and our team members to deliver an unparalleled guest experience.”

San Manuel purchased the Palms from Station Casinos in 2021. It is the first resort in Las Vegas entirely owned and operated by an American Indian tribe.
