In short

  • Google is preparing a new search bar for the Devices tab in the Google Home app that will help users quickly find connected devices.
  • The company is also preparing Material You theme support for the app.
  • These features are not available in the current stable release, but may be available soon.

The Devices tab in Google Home can get pretty crowded if you have a full-blown smart home setup with a bunch of smart speakers, cameras, and other connected devices. This makes managing your devices a bit of a chore, especially if you haven’t labeled and organized them properly. Thankfully, Google has finally come up with an innovative solution that should make the process a lot easier.

Some APK Demolition helps predict features that might appear in the service in the future based on code in the works. However, it is possible that such predicted features will not be released publicly.

The Google Home app currently doesn’t offer any way to quickly search for specific devices. That could change with a future update, though. We’ve spotted evidence of an upcoming search bar for the Devices tab in version 3.23.1.3 of the Google Home app, which will make searching through the extensive list of devices much easier. The search bar will appear at the top of the Devices tab with the prompt “Search for devices here.”

Google is also preparing support for themes based on Material You wallpapers for the app, as shown in the screenshots above. In the current stable version, the app uses a white or gray background, depending on the default system theme, and a light blue color for accents and buttons. Once this feature is implemented, the app will choose colors from the current wallpaper for the background, accents, and other UI elements.

While these changes aren’t available in the latest Google Home update, they seem ready to roll out. We’ll update this post once the new search bar and Material You theme are widely available.
