US e-tailer Flaviar acquires direct sales platform Speakeasy

Flaviar, a US e-commerce and services company for the beverage industry, has acquired online sales platform Speakeasy.

Speakeasy, based in San Diego, is an e-commerce company that processes direct-to-consumer orders for beverage companies.

Speakeasy’s services, launched in 2015, enable brands to sell directly to consumers through their own online stores while complying with the U.S. three-tiered distribution system that ensures legal separation between alcohol producers, distributors and retailers.

“By combining our offerings under the Flaviar Checkout umbrella, brand partners will no longer be forced to choose between the multiple routes to market that each company in the U.S. has offered until now,” said Flaviar CEO Jugoslav Petkovic.

“While our offering is global, we have a particular focus on delivering innovative services to bev-alc brands in the U.S. while promoting three-tier compliance through our partnerships with distributors and hundreds of retailers in our fulfillment network.”

Flaviar said the Speakeasy team will continue to provide order fulfillment services, which will be incorporated into its “Flaviar Checkout” e-commerce services.

Initially focused on craft spirits brands, Speakeasy eventually attracted larger customers to its platform, including Tesla, which sold its tequila, mezcal and beer brands through the service.

“E-commerce has the potential to grow exponentially in the alcoholic beverage industry, and we have established ourselves as a leader in this space,” said Speakeasy CEO Josh Jacobs.

“Combined with Flaviar’s business solutions, we will be able to equip our partners with the necessary tools to grow, which will perfectly complement our long-term initiatives to scale direct-to-consumer e-commerce for alcoholic beverage brands.”

Founded in 2012, Flaviar operates two U.S. consumer marketplaces, Flaviar.com and Caskers.com. The company says it processes about 1 million orders a year. Privately held Flaviar said it will process half a million orders this year, reaching nine-figure gross revenue.

The group also operates Wine-Searcher, a wine search and price comparison site that indexes 19 million listings from some 35,000 sellers in more than 120 countries.
