Maldives urged to recruit more Bangladeshi nurses

Bangladesh and the Maldives stressed on Thursday (September 12) that the two countries can further strengthen cooperation in the health, fisheries and tourism sectors.

Foreign Minister Md Jashim Uddin has asked the Maldives government to consider recruiting nurses from Bangladesh.

He made the request when Maldives High Commissioner to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed met the new foreign minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that both countries would use the untapped potential to strengthen trade ties and strive for multi-sectoral cooperation.

The High Commissioner congratulated the Minister of Foreign Affairs on his new duties. She also conveyed the best wishes of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Maldives.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the High Commissioner to Bangladesh and congratulated her on her appointment. He also assured her of all possible cooperation.

He mentioned that Bangladesh attaches great importance to its relations with the Maldives.

He thanked the Maldivian government for providing employment to the Bangladeshi workforce in the Maldives.

The High Commissioner emphasised the role of Bangladesh as an important regional partner and appreciated the contribution of Bangladeshi migrant workers who played a crucial role in the development process of the Maldives.

She also informed that the Maldivian government will soon start the process of regularising the stay of undocumented Bangladeshi emigrants living in the Maldives.

The High Commissioner thanked the Government of Bangladesh for hosting a large number of students from the Maldives, especially those studying medicine.

The Foreign Minister informed that the Bangladesh government attaches great importance to SAARC.

Both sides stressed the need for close cooperation within SAARC and other regional and multilateral fora.
