Joe Burrow shuts down theory after poor game against Patriots

Last Sunday, the Patriots silenced one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks in their first victory of the season.

New England’s stingy defense limited Joe Burrow to just 164 yards passing and no touchdowns at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati, only the third time since the start of the 2022 season that Burrow has fewer than 180 yards passing in a full game.

Given how poorly Burrow and the Bengals offense looked in Week 1, fans and media alike wondered if the star quarterback was still struggling with his right wrist, which was surgically repaired to address a season-ending injury last year. People online even thought they spotted scenes in the fourth quarter where Burrow favored the wrist of his throwing hand.

But speaking to the media on Wednesday, the 27-year-old insisted his wrist had “absolutely no” impact on his throwing against the Patriots. He also insisted he’s “continuing to improve” and explained why he moved his wrist quite a bit last weekend.

“That’s part of what happens with ligament injuries,” Burrow told reporters, according to ESPN. “If you don’t move a ligament, you’re going to lose it, so I’m just keeping it moving, keeping it loose, keeping my mobility where it needs to be, so that’s going to keep happening.”

Unfortunately for Burrow and company, they’ll face a tough client on Sunday as they try to secure their first win of the season. Cincinnati will spend Week 2 in Kansas City, where the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs will host a rematch for the 2022 AFC Championship.
