iPhone 16 is coming – Apple has announced a new entry-level iPhone 16 and a larger-screen iPhone 16 Plus on September 10. On this page, we’ve rounded up all the best telco deals in Australia to help you find the best iPhone plan.

The iPhone 16 starts at AU$1,399, while the larger iPhone 16 Plus starts at AU$1,599 – an interesting price drop compared to the iPhone 15 generation. The full series will launch in Australia on September 20, with pre-sales starting on September 13 at 10pm AEST. The phones will be available in Ultramarine Blue, Turquoise Blue, Pink, White and Black.

These new phones are a giant leap forward from the entry-level models. Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus feature a significantly improved processor and two brand new buttons on the side of the device that make it easier to quickly perform operations and take photos.

They are also the first iPhones to be built from the ground up with Apple Intelligence, Apple’s buzzword for “AI,” in mind. Those features will begin rolling out in October.

The phones will feature the A18 chip, a generational leap from the A16 chip in the iPhone 15, with storage options of 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB. You may have also noticed the vertical cameras—they’re supposed to support spatial video recording for the Apple Vision Pro.

Both the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are pretty significant upgrades over their predecessors. From the new A18 series chips built from the ground up to integrate AI to the improved cameras, these devices offer a number of enticing new features.

First up, the A18-series chipsets introduce “Apple Intelligence,” which, as the name suggests, is a whole new set of AI features across a range of existing Apple apps. Think ChatGPT-like language models for text or email, image and emoji generators, and a new “Visual Intelligence” app that’s the same as Google Lens.

In terms of hardware, the iPhone 16 series not only brings new chipsets, but also an improved camera with a new physical camera button that works directly with the camera app. Apple calls the new 48-megapixel main camera the “Fusion Camera” because it can seamlessly switch between high-resolution and storage-friendly images, as well as stereoscopic capture for Apple Vision Pro.

The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max feature slightly larger 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays with thinner bezels than their predecessors. The main improvements to the Pro models this year include 4K video at 120 FPS (perfect for slow motion), as well as a standard 48MP wide-angle lens and a 5x telephoto lens (12MP and 2x on the standard iPhone 16).
