Freeboot Friday Warms Up Fans Ahead of ECU vs. App State

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – The East Carolina University football team looks to continue its winning streak when it takes on Appalachian State University on Saturday afternoon. Fans spent the night leading up to the game partying.

There was an electric atmosphere at Five Points Plaza in Greenville on Friday night as Pirate Nation members celebrated Freeboot Friday for the second time this season.

Fans both new and old were looking forward to catching up with family and friends before Saturday’s game against rival App State.

Hana White arrived from Charlotte on Friday and said she was ready to cheer on the Pirates.

“Well, it’s my first game here and my first time in Greenville,” White said. “I’m just super excited to be here.”

Fans enjoyed live music from the Holler Choir and food from local food trucks. They even had the opportunity to meet the legendary Pitt County girls softball team and get an autographed photo.

Billy Bodette had a great time at Freeboot on Friday and said he is looking forward to the start of the Dowdy-Ficklen match on Saturday at 4 p.m.

“First of all, we are here to support our community, but also our ECU Pirates, where we believe in a huge victory tomorrow,” Bodette said. “We are here and we are having a great time.”

Pirates, who are currently 2-0, are looking to maintain their undefeated streak.

According to ECU Athletics, more than 50,000 tickets have been sold for Saturday’s game.

If ECU wins, it will be 3-0 for the first time since 2008.
