Banned by e-commerce platforms, Thailand Post demands fair playing field

The aim is to create fair conditions for all stakeholders, especially Thai entrepreneurs, the president said.

Responding to ongoing concerns about fierce and unfair competition from foreign e-commerce platforms, he said:You have to play with balance. If you don’t, you all die!

He stressed the need for government intervention, asking:How can we set a major challenge for Thailand to become a producer rather than a consumer?

Danan highlighted the challenges Thailand Post faces, citing its exclusion from e-commerce platforms where stores and customers cannot choose their preferred shipping method. He suggested the creation of a regulatory body to oversee competition and set clear, fair rules.

“No change was made and no oversight agency was created” he said, noting that the situation remains unchanged. He also noted new challenges, such as TikTok’s growing role in e-commerce, which mainly uses overseas shipping services such as J&T Express.

While Thailand Post has made some progress in negotiations with platforms like TikTok, allowing a small number of sellers to use their services, Danan warns that it faces tougher battles in the future.

He specifically mentioned Temu, a platform that has no physical presence in Thailand, making it difficult even for the Department of Revenue to monitor.

“Since June, TikTok shipments have dropped by about 50% per day” he said, emphasizing the impact these platforms have on local logistics service providers.
