Netflix Will Stop Updating App for These iPhones and iPads Unless Absolutely Necessary: What This Means for Users

Netflix reportedly limits its support for the elderly iPhones AND iPadsAccording to the company, while the streaming service will continue to work on these devices, the update will not be available unless absolutely necessary.
The Verge quoted Netflix spokesperson MoMo Zhou as saying that the company will not be releasing further updates for iOS 16 application version.
Netflix has been reported to display an alert to users on iPhones and iPads running iOS 16, saying, “We’ve updated the Netflix app! To use the latest version, install iOS 17 or later.”

What can users of older iPhone and iPad models do?

Since there will be no update for those using devices running iOS 16, the easiest solution is to update the operating system of their phones. To update:

  • Go to Settings > General > Software Update.
  • If multiple software updates are available, select the latest one and install it.
  • Click Install Now. If you see Download and Install, click to download the update.
  • Enter your access code and click Install Now.

Devices that cannot be updated to iOS 17, such as iPhone X, iPhone 8, and iPhone 8 Plus, and the first-generation Apple iPad Pro and iPad 5 tablets, will still be able to watch Netflix, but there is no guarantee that the update will fix bugs and other security issues on these devices.
As mentioned, Netflix will update the app for these devices in case of critical errors. Another option is that people can use a web browser to watch their content.
