Madrid’s Bernabéu Stadium cancels concerts until 2025

Plans to transform the Santiago Bernabéu stadium in Madrid, Spain, into a new music epicenter have hit an unexpected snag. Following successful performances by artists including Karol G, Taylor Swift and Luis Miguel, Real Madrid Football Club announced on Friday (September 13) that it has decided to suspend scheduled concerts at its official venue until 2025, although no specific date has been given.

“Real Madrid CF hereby announces that it has decided to temporarily postpone its calendar of events and concerts at the Santiago Bernabéu. This decision is part of a series of measures the club is taking to ensure strict compliance with the current city regulations during concerts,” the club said in a press release published on its website and social media.

“Despite the acoustic insulation of the Santiago Bernabéu and the additional measures that have been implemented, compliance with these regulations by the various organisers and promoters has been hampered by the challenge of meeting all the requirements,” the statement added. “Real Madrid will continue to work to ensure that concerts are held in the precise conditions in terms of sound production and transmission that allow concerts to be held in our stadium.”

The concerts affected include those by Dellafuente and Aitana, originally scheduled for November 15 and December 28-29 respectively, and Lola Índigo, scheduled for March 22, 2025, Real Madrid said, stating that all would be postponed. The Music Bank Festival, which was set to attract K-pop stars such as BOYNEXTDOOR, KISS OF LIFE and aespa on October 12, was ultimately canceled.

No further details were provided. Billboard in Spanish attempted to contact Real Madrid’s communications department but had not received a response by the time of publication.

On their social media accounts, Aitana and Lola Índigo were quick to respond to the news. Aitana immediately announced new dates for her performances, which will take place on June 27 and 28, 2025, while Índigo stated that she would announce the new dates as soon as she knew them.

“We are sad, but everything has been postponed to 2025 and I am sure it will be amazing,” said a visibly moved Aitana in a video posted on her Instagram account. “It is a blow, but we will come back stronger next year, we promise!” Lola Índigo expressed. Fans flooded their accounts with messages of support, although the consternation of the wait was visible.

FACUA, a Spanish non-governmental and non-profit organization fighting for consumer rights, posted the following message on X (formerly Twitter): “If you are one of the people affected, you are entitled to a refund and compensation for non-refundable transport and accommodation costs incurred.”

The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, which can hold up to 65,000 people, opened its doors to music events last April with Locos por la Música, followed by a series of shows from Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour on May 29-30 and the four closing shows of Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito Tour on July 20-23. Other notable concerts at the venue include concerts by Duca (June 8), Manuel Carrasco (June 29) and Luis Miguel (July 6-7). The last band to perform there was Aventura, on September 7-8.

The Bernabéu stadium, home to one of the biggest football teams in the Spanish capital, is located in the Chamartín district, just off Paseo de la Castellana, a mainly residential area. The noise level generated by the shows is not the only problem; there have also been concerns about traffic and huge crowds.
