Mark Cuban Criticizes Trump’s Investment Track Record: ‘What Startups Has Trump Ever Invested In That Didn’t Involve a Family Member?’

Billionaire investor, Shark Tank star, and Kamala Harris supporter Mark Cuban recently took to social media to attack former President Donald Trump’s record of investing in startups outside of his family’s businesses. In a series of posts on X (formerly known as Twitter), Cuban challenged Trump supporters with a pointed question:

“To all Trump supporters. Question. What startups has Donald Trump ever invested in that didn’t involve a family member?” Cuban wrote.

Don’t miss:

Cuban’s question was about more than money; he said it spoke volumes about Trump’s personality. Responding to another user who questioned the basis of his claim, Cuban noted that as a presidential candidate, Trump is required to file financial disclosures with the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Cuban said he found no evidence that Trump invested in non-family businesses.

“You would think there would be companies that he invested in that would say something, right? I can’t find them. But rather than assume they don’t exist, I asked the question,” Cuban explained.

He also noted that every wealthy person he knows, with the exception of Donald J. Trump, makes an effort to help others.

A Trump campaign spokesperson responded to Business Insider’s comments by pointing to Trump’s accomplishments as a businessman and artist. He said Trump is a self-taught, successful businessman who has played a key role in shaping and reshaping New York’s iconic skyline.

“His other accomplishments include creating and starring in one of the most watched television shows in history — far more successful than ‘Shark Tank’ — and becoming the 45th president of the United States.”

From supporter to critic

While Mark Cuban has reservations about Trump’s investment decisions, it’s important to remember that many Trump supporters see him as a successful businessman who has built a powerful global brand. His image as a self-made entrepreneur was shaped in part by his real estate ventures and the popular television show The Apprentice.

Cuban said he initially supported Trump during his first presidential campaign, appreciating that he was not your typical politician.

“I thought he was great; he wasn’t your typical Stepford candidate. I thought that was a positive thing,” Cuban said in an interview with Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. “But then I met him.”

Cuban cited Trump-related controversies such as Trump University and Trump SoHo as reasons for his change of heart.

“He was unethical then and he is unethical now,” Cuban said.

As the election season heats up, such debates will likely continue, with figures like Cuban using their position to raise questions about the character and actions of those running for public office.
