Kamala Harris vows to lower prices of basic necessities that have skyrocketed during her term

Kamala Harris announced a new initiative aimed at lowering the cost of basic necessities, responding to concerns about skyrocketing prices that have hit families across the country. Speaking in North Carolina, Harris emphasized that easing the financial burden on the middle class will be a cornerstone of her presidency.

In her speech, Harris proposed a federal ban on price gouging by food manufacturers and grocery stores to curb rising food costs.

She also unveiled a plan to provide $25,000 in down payment assistance for some first-time homebuyers and tax incentives to encourage the construction of affordable homes for people transitioning into independent living.

“Every day, families talk about their hopes for the future and how they can financially achieve them, but the rising cost of living makes that difficult,” Harris said. “Between food, rent, gas and health care, many are left with nothing at the end of the month.”

Her comments come in response to growing criticism, including from Donald Trump, who blames her for rising inflation. The Harris-Biden administration has faced scrutiny for steep price increases in key sectors including housing, energy and health care, and inflation remains a top concern for many Americans.

Under their leadership, housing costs have risen 22%, food costs have risen 23%, and energy costs have risen 32%. During that same time, electricity costs have risen 28%, health care costs have risen 18%, and auto insurance premiums have risen 53%. Harris’ plan aims to address these challenges as she seeks to win voters’ support before the next election.
