Indican Pictures Brings Boaz Yakin’s ‘Once Again’ to North America

EXCLUSIVE: Indican Pictures has acquired the rights to Boaz Yakin’s romance film, which stars dance, rap and slam poetry Once again (For the first time) and will be shown in US cinemas from October.

The film is described as a supernatural fantasy story with elements of break dance and hip-hop. The main role is played by Jeroboam Bozeman as DeRay, a legendary dancer who falls from the sky and lands on the doorstep of Naima (Mecca Verdell), a poet-Slamist who is the love of his life.

The lovers have both experienced trauma and guilt, and they pour their pain onto the canvas of the play, which is set against the backdrop of the streets of New York, a war zone.

The dance sequences were choreographed by Rennie Harris, and the music was composed by Marcus Norris (Trumpets for Jesus. Save your soul.)

Once again follows writer-director Yakin’s 2020 romance, which is dominated by dance Avivawhich was supposed to debut at SXSW, but eventually ended up online due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

He is also known for his 2001 feature film. Remember the Titansstarring Denzel Washington, and for co-creating the hit Netflix series The harder they fallwith director Jeymes Samuel.

The acquisition, which began in Cannes and closed at TIFF, was negotiated by Indican co-founders Randolph Kret and Shaun Hill, Yakin and Jonathan Gray on behalf of the producers, Evan Knauss of Eisner LLP and Miguel Govea and Brett Walker on behalf of Alief.

Once again The film will premiere in Los Angeles, New York and Washington, D.C., and will be available in major North American cities starting October 18. The digital premiere is planned for February 2025.
